How to get there….
Liberia Airport
--Fly into Liberia Airport in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. Liberia
Airport is 45 minutes to Tamarindo as opposed to San Jose which
is a 5 hour drive to Tamarindo. There are daily flights to
Liberia, check out Delta and American Airlines which seem to run
the most flights there. YOU DO NEED A PASSPORT!!
Once you arrive...
Taxi/Minibus
-- Grab a taxi outside the airport, there are many waiting.
Prices should be about 50-80 US dollars for the 45 minute drive,
depending on passengers and luggage. Don’t be afraid to haggle
with prices, sometimes there is some room even though there is a
loose taxi association that seems to have some regulated prices.
Rental Car
-- There are cars for rent available at the airport, however if
you only want a car for a day or two just rent one once you are
in Tamarindo. If you do rent, be sure to get a 4x4.
Airplane --
Nature Air operates domestic flights within Costa Rica. There
is a small runway in Tamarindo and the flight takes about 10-15
minutes. Book at
www.natureair.com
Shuttle Bus –
Your cheapest way to get to and from the Liberia airport.
However, when traveling with more than two people or three
people a taxi can be just as inexpensive. Get more information
on airport shuttles here:

Directions….
Ask the driver to take you to Balcones del Pacifico which is
located behind the Diria Condominiums. After entering the main
road in Tamarindo take a left after the Jazz Casino (Mama’s Deli
will be on your right). The Diria condos will be on your left
and once you pass them you will see a RED building on your left,
this is Balcones del Pacifico. Maria our manager will meet you
there, check you into the apartment, give you the keys and
answer any questions. You can contact Maria with any problems
during your stay. Also, please coordinate with her about maid
service. You may also schedule extra visits and pay Maria for
these services.
BE ON THE BEACH LESS THAN 2 HOURS AFTER TOUCHDOWN!
Items to bring...
Passport
of course!
Traveler’s checks and some cash.
Most places take major credit cards. Do not exchange cash in
the airports, you will get a better rate in Tamarindo. There
are many banks in town to exchange Traveler’s checks at. There
is a cut off amount of 500 dollars per day, per bank that you
can exchange Travelers checks. I would recommend not keeping
too much cash on you and exchanging money every day or two.
Sunscreen, bug spray, and beach towels!
You can rent beach chairs and umbrellas on the beach for a
few dollars a day.
Surfboards....it
is very easy to rent a board in Tamarindo and there are tons of
surf shops with huge selections.
Yourself and your bathing suit…..
Upon leaving...
Taxi to the Airport.
The taxi stand in town is on the main road, located across the
street from the Diria Hotel. You can schedule a time for them
to pick you up from the condo and take you to the airport. Ask
for the price when you are booking the ride so it is established
before they pick you up. Or book the Tamarindo Shuttle to the
airport. Their office is located near the Lazy Wave
Restaurant. I would recommend getting to the airport 1.5-2
hours before your flight leaves.
Outgoing Costa Rican Tariff.
Costa Rica charges $26.00 US dollars upon exiting the country so
be sure to save some cash!
